This Saturday, my gallery is presenting “Drawn to Creation: Two Views,” a joint exhibition featuring my work alongside award-winning artist Naomi Aho. The opening reception takes place Saturday, September 26, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at 394 Commercial Street in Rockport.

Drawn to Creation: Two Views explores the natural world through two contrasting mediums and viewpoints. The exhibition pairs my more fluid oil landscapes with Naomi’s intricate colored and graphite pencil drawings. Where I tend to focus on sweeping atmospheric light, Naomi captures what she calls “intimate landscapes”—the quiet beauty of line, contour, and layered detail found through close observation.

“I love the line. Sometimes I am stopped in my tracks by the beauty of a line or the contour of an object,” says Naomi. “Working with pencil, whether colored or graphite, allows me to work those lines and contours into drawings filled with layered color, value, and the interplay of light and shadow.

“I am in awe of what can be discovered through the close observation of nature. While I appreciate majestic vistas on a grand scale, my joy is found in the smallest details—more intimate landscapes, as it were. It is a privilege to faithfully render the often-unseen details of my favorite subjects in order to honor God’s creation.”
