You’ve taken classes and workshops before. You’ve studied the rules, broken a few, and built a body of work that speaks with confidence. This weeklong intensive is designed for experienced painters like you, looking to push their boundaries and explore new techniques.

Throughout the week, you’ll connect with other painters. As an advanced group, we’ll push each other, working side by side and sharing insightful feedback.

The week concludes with an opportunity to show your work in my gallery. All participants will be invited to share their accomplishments with the public at a closing reception.

Advanced Topics Covered:

  • Development of personal themes, narratives and concepts
  • Directing the viewer’s eye through the painting
  • Taking drawing seriously
  • Advanced color concepts and applying them to your design
  • Scumbling, impasto, and other advanced painting techniques
  • Repairs and revisions (ouch)
  • Critical Analysis
  • Developing a cohesive body of work
  • Showing your work in a gallery setting

Admission Requirements:

Class size is kept small to allow for personal interaction and individual guidance. To ensure a high-level learning environment, all interested students must submit a portfolio for review prior to acceptance. Your portfolio should include:

  • Up to 5 of your best recent works
  • Your artistic goals for the workshop

Location:

The Maine coast is an artist’s paradise, with its stunning scenery, vibrant colors, and ever-changing light. In the height of summer, the days are long and sunny, and the nights are cool and refreshing, providing ideal conditions for outdoor painting.

A Few Details

Each day will include morning and afternoon on-site painting and lunch-time discussions and demos. We will paint in a number of locations so transportation (perhaps car pooling with other participants) will be required.

Students will need to bring a portable easel as well as the other art supplies necessary for painting. A list will be sent to registrants.

Cost: $775. This covers all painting instruction. Lodging, meals, and supplies are the responsibility of the student.

Requirements: Portable plein air easel, paints, brushes, etc., rain jackets, plein air umbrella, sunscreen, insect repellent, stool suggested.

Maximum: 14 participants/workshop.

Mediums: All mediums are welcome: oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor.

Time: 9 – 4 pm each day.

Location: Centered in Rockport, ME.

Refunds available up to 60 days prior to start, less a $50 administration fee.
