Maynard Dixon Clouds

I was painting with my buddies at Sedona’s airport. They were interested in the late afternoon golden light hitting the massifs; I was interested in these clouds.  I especially like the very restrained landforms below the clouds; they make me happy in their austerity as set against the exuberance of the sky.

These aren’t really Maynard Dixon clouds because they’re not marching in formation across the sky, but they do have a sense of depth, and that’s what mattered to him, and to me as well.

Maynard Dixon Clouds was painted in Sedona, AZ. It’s 11X14, on archival canvasboard.
