Owls Head

Owl’s Head is so far off the beaten path, you’re unlikely to find it without insider information. It’s not on the way to anywhere else, and even if you know about the transportation museum or the lighthouse, you might not even realize that you just zipped past downtown.

It’s also been my absolute favorite place to paint and teach for the last few years. Much of its charm comes from the working dock and fishing shacks along the water.

This was painted in early spring, when the willows were still feathery yellow. The air was crisp and cool, and the sky was that ethereal blue that’s only found in Maine. This painting is in an elegant and classic gold-leafed plein air frame and would be a superlative accent piece anywhere a shot of color is needed.
