American Eagle in Dry Dock

American Eagle is the most beautiful schooner in the world (and the one on which I teach my Age of Sail workshop twice a year). Its home berth, the North End Shipyard, is a quirky and picturesque place to paint. The emphasis here is on the ancient diesel engine that hauls these huge boats out of the sea for spring fit-out, and Eagle’s beautiful curved prow.

This painting can jump any way. Put it in a traditional plein air frame and it will enhance any rustic or classic room. Or go contemporary with a narrow black frame and white liner. Or even try grey-on-grey driftwood. It’s a painting that will go anywhere with distinction.
