Apple Blossom Time

If you live in the northeast, you know that orderly patterns aren’t what we’re looking for in the first blush of spring. The frost-bound earth is unlocked, releasing the tenderness of spring growth and a riot of intense, penetrating green.

It was on such a chilly but promising afternoon that Eric Jacobsen and I found this beat-up old shed with a fruit tree bending over it. Just few weeks later, we would be discriminating between weeds and wanted plants, and complaining about how much work we had to do in the garden. But in that moment of indescribable joy, it was finally, wonderfully, a new year.

Apple Blossom Time is oil on archival canvasboard, 9X12, and is in a crisp black-and-gold plein air frame.
