Apple Tree with Swing

An ancient fruit tree is a blessing. It will give you cascades of white blossoms in the spring and the sweet scent of ripening fruit in the fall. The gnarled branches are there year-round, and if you’re lucky enough to have one that arches, you can add a swing, as on this old tree in Castine, Maine. That’s the mouth of the Bagaduce River in the background, shining blue in the summer light. This was painted en plein air, on site, and it radiates summer.

It’s a nostalgic journey in blues, greens and warm golds and oranges and would be beautiful in any room where you want to contemplate summer light, all year round.
