Country Path

My friends and I went to a wetlands preserve in Sedona to paint. They’re desert-dwellers and wanted the water, but what is that to a New Englander? I only had eyes for the blue-violet shadows creeping along the red dust of a nearby road. A cumulonimbus cloud began to build in the distance towards Jerome, but this was the desert, where most rain dissipates before hitting the ground. It wasn’t excessively hot, and my little dog sat in my shadow while I painted. Very seldom can I say I get lost in time while painting, but this was one magical time when that happened.
