Rim Light

I teach in Sedona once a year.  I saw these prickly pear cactuses outside my window, catching the early-morning light. They rapidly became an obsession for me, since I live in a state where cactuses don’t grow.

Contre-jour lighting–or lighting from behind–is the most difficult painterly effect to achieve, and it’s so much fun!

This painting is big enough to be a statement piece on an important wall,  bright enough that nobody will miss it, and unambiguously Sedona.
